Take a break from the grind and check out these useless tidbits of Novell information.
NETWare is for Lefties?
On a NetWare server console, assuming that you use proper typing techniques (not hunt and peck).... You can issue the commands "RESET SERVER" or "RESTART SERVER" and do so without using your right hand.
NetWare Passwords?
Did you know that traditional NetWare passwords are not case-sensitive? This is true even today. Novell's Universal Password can be implemented to achieve stronger password policies as well as case sensitivity, but it is not enabled by default.
Jiggle Memory?
Did you know that NetWare 6.5 has a configuration parameter called "Jiggle Memory"? It can be accessed through the Server Registry settings in the Portal. The more important question: Is Jiggling the Memory really necessary? Why would you want to? What does it accomplish? Documentation is slim for this parameter so we may never know!
The Four Finger Salute?
When a NetWare server has crashed, hung, or is otherwise responsive, a lot of people will just hit the power button and hope for the best. A better way is to invoke the Four Finger Salute. There is a good chance you can get the server to a DOS prompt, but it's still pretty harsh and should be the last resort. To perform the salute, simply hit <LEFT SHIFT> <RIGHT SHIFT> <ALT> <ESC> all together. Once it takes you to the debugger (You'll know when you get there), you can hit Q to quit and it should take you to DOS.
